KOLLAGEN-resorb

Collagen has become firmly established as a biomaterial in medicine. Due to its pro-coagulatory properties, it is suited for local haemostasis and filling defects. Since collagen is totally absorbed by the organism, secondary interventions for the removal of materials are redundant.

Effective local hemostasis and promotion of wound healing

Among other features, KOLLAGEN-resorb has a positive influence on blood coagulation: after contact with the blood, thrombocytes aggregate at the collagen fibres and trigger a coagulation reaction.

Hemostyptics based on collagen are significantly more effective than gelatinous sponges or cellulose. They are rapidly and completely absorbed by the body, while the native collagen promotes granulation and epithelialisation (Silverstein 1981, Stemberger 1992). Collagen not only creates a 'guide rail' for the tissue reaction, which promotes the active influx and adherence of divisible cells, it also provides a chemotactic stimulus.

"Our experience, however, shows that it is exactly there, where controlled and perfect hemostasis occurs, that wound healing processes are particularly favourable" (Ascherl, Chemnitz)

KOLLAGEN-resorb is able to absorb large amounts of fluids on account of its sponge-like structure. By virtue of this purely mechanical process, discarded material, bacteria and fibrinous layers are taken up by the absorption of secretions. The loose filling of the wound and the effective blood coagulation, prevent the development of a wound hematoma.

The use of collagen of equine origin guarantees the highest level of product and patient safety (TSE/BSE). The weakly immunogenic starting material is purified by validated manufacturing processes in order to ensure biocompatibility and the lowest antigenicity of the medical product.

The many advantages for the user result from the positive properties of the collagen:

  • biocompatible
  • biodegradable
  • osteoconductive
  • angioconductive
  • pH-stable
  • non-antigenic

Possible indications for KOLLAGEN-resorb include:

  • For wound care and as a hemostyptic in cases of venous, capillary, diffuse and surface bleeding from parenchymal organs
  • As a temporary skin replacement for painless cover, e.g. with venous ulcers
  • For covering skin harvesting areas
  • For temporary cover of second and third degree burns
  • For filling defects and hemostasis after removal of spongiosa or other orthopaedic interventions (e.g. filling of the intervertebral disc space)
  • As a vehicle for fibrin glue

KOLLAGEN-resorb is dimensionally stable and can be applied either dry or wet, into or onto the open wound surface (e.g. with physiological NaCl-solution)
