In the production of needle-thread combinations RESORBA uses eyeless needles that are manufactured from high quality non-corroding steel. With atraumatic needle-thread combinations, the thread is firmly inserted into a drilled shaft in the needle. This creates a tissue-protective and virtually step-free transition from thread to needle.
Special surface treatments and precision grinding of the point and body of the needle guarantee minimal resistance to penetration and optimal passage through the tissue.
Depending on the wound and tissue situation, as well as on the indication and surgical technique, RESORBA offers optimally tailored atraumatic suture materials to cover all requirements the user may have. The most stringent demands are placed on the characteristics of the needle (diameter, tip, length of arc) in terms of:
- Penetration properties
- Bending strength
- Tensile strength
- Secure fit in the needle holder
The best possible needle for the respective indication is determined by the cut, curvature and length of arc:
1. Round-bodied needle![]() 5/8-, 1/2-, 3/8-circle or straight = FR, HR, DR, GR |
![]() |
| » For soft (subcutaneous) tissues such as muscle, fascia, mucous membrane » The middle of the needle is flat for better seating in the needle holder » Easy entry |
|
2. Round-bodied cutting needle![]() 1/2-, 3/8-circle or straight = HRT, DRT, GRT |
![]() |
| » For firm tissue, sclerotic vessels and prostheses » Needle point with three or four cutting edges for a narrow puncture canal which initially penetrates tissue. It initially penetrates tissue like a cutting needle but then changes to a round-bodied shape, thus preventing unwanted severe trauma. |

3. Reverse cutting needle![]() 1/2-, 3/8-circle, 1/2-curved or straight = HS, DS, KS, GS |
![]() |
| » For firm tissue, e.g. skin » Triangular needle cross section » also available as hand ground premium needle |
|
4. Spatula needle![]() 1/2-, 3/8- or 1/4-circle or straight = HSPM, DMPM, VSPM |
![]() |
| » For ophthalmic and microsurgery » flattened needle body » hand ground » lateral cutting edge |
|
5. Blunt, round-bodied needle![]() 1/2-, 3/8-circle or 1/2-curved = HRN, DRN, KRN |
![]() |
| » For parenchymatous tissue, cervix and muscles of the eye » Blunt needle point » No piercing of vessels or tendons |
