CAPROLON™

monofilament, long-term absorbable

The production of CAPROLON™ involves the copolymerisation of lactide and ɛ-caprolactone in a specific ratio: This produces [poly(L-lactide-co-ɛ-caprolactone)] The high lactide content of CAPROLON™ puts it into the category of sutures with a slow rate of absorption.

TYPES OF PACKAGING:
needle-thread-combinations

THREAD DIAMETER:
USP 6-0 to 1 (0.7-4 metric)

COLOUR:
violet or undyed

CHEMICAL NAME:
[Poly(L-lactide-co-ɛcaprolactone)]

The tear resistance of CAPROLON™ is reduced by 50% after approx. 7 weeks following implantation. Complete absorption by hydrolysis takes approx. 32 weeks. Safe intermediary products, as well as the monofilament structure of the thread, result in minimal tissue reaction. The monofilament is coated with resolactone for better handling and tissue passage.

CAPROLON™ is available undyed or in violet (coloured with the physiologically harmless D+C No. 2 dye).

Properties:

  • high tear resistance
  • excellent knot security
  • atraumatic tissue passage
  • minimal tissue reaction
